Women in Sports Series

I got the idea to run this series after cleaning out my Twitter direct messages. There were a lot of inappropriate comments, as usual. It used to make me angry, but I have since learned that it is just something I will deal with. It is not acceptable behavior, but it is my reality. The higher profile I get, the worse it gets. I understand that, and I have accepted it. But I also want to highlight it.

I wanted to run this series to highlight other women involved in various sports in a variety of roles. From athletes to journalists to future medical staff to fans. I wanted to give these women a platform to tell their stories about sports. How sports shaped their lives and their futures, and their experiences as women in an area that is still male-driven. I have given each of the women who will contribute free-rein to write whatever they feel. Whatever is on their minds. Each post will be in her words alone. My blog is just the platform.

Over the next few weeks, I will be publishing some of these stories. I aim to post one story a week for at least the next 4-6 weeks. However, this is an ongoing series. My hope is that this series continues to grow with more and more women adding their voices.

My goal with this series is to highlight how women impact the world of sports. I hope this series is uplifting and can provide all who read it with inspiration. I also want this series to highlight how integral women are to the sports world, even if the anonymous accounts in my, and many other women’s, DMs say otherwise.
